On the GBKD

Hey friends. Time to stay in touch and share the ramblings that we have shared at knitting over the years. We'll all be authors on this blog and we can all alert each other to the goings-ons in our lives. Miss you much.

Woohoo!

The GBKD is awesome. I've been bad and not doing much knitting. But I am working on two scarves right now. One for me and one for Josh.

Wow, I even created my own Gmail account for this! I'm pretty much freaking out these days. I scheduled my defense for April 16 and am spending two of the few remaining weeks in Peru. Two "substance" chapters are already done, and the third is nearing completion. The intro and concluding chapters will be easy cut-and-paste from the manuscripts I wrote, right? RIGHT?!?!?

And as long as I'm posting on a blog dedicated to keeping in touch, I wanted to point two things out to everyone.

The first is Facebook (www.facebook.com), which is a site that essentially allows you to post little updates about yourself and keep an eye on the updates posted about everyone in your network. It's a great place to post photos, too. I check mine every few days - it's not as cheesy as you might think and is a lot tidier than something like Myspace.

Second is Skype. It's a program that you can download, and essentially it's a telephone program. It works best with headphones and a microphone (you can get a "telemarketer" set for only a few bucks). Once you find someone you know on Skype, you can call him/her through the internet for free. I know of a ton of people who use it to call the US from Costa Rica, and my first call actually was to New Zealand. Can't beat free international calls!

Obviously, I have accounts on both Facebook and Skype. If any of you set up accounts, please let me know so that I can add you. I'm moving from Lawrence this summer, so it'll be nice to have some of these contacts in place.
