I was wondering why everyone had nice looking blogspot blogs. I just discovered blogger has a lot of easy to use templates since I last designed my Haiti blog. Here's my fresh website. It even has a hummingbird on the side, but I widened the window so all you can see now is the beak.

I just added a blog roll on the side. I figure that generally we want each other to read our blogs and that we don't necessarily want random on-line friends navigating here (thus no direct link from my blog to the GBKD). In any case, if you don't want your blog included, move it, and if you want a blog added, add it.
On a side note, my parents just returned from a wedding and their 45th high school reunion and returned to a cat-less house for the first time in 30+ years. They are pretty upset but were moved to tears by the kind notes on my blog. Thanks. (complete aside, Mom asked if I had any thoughts about going to me 10th. I had to laugh because well, it was 8 years ago and I broke my ankle in many places that day, so my parents had to wait outside my apartment for the friends who were taking me. I hadn't thought about 20 until she mentioned it. Anyway, at 18 years out of high school I have spent almost exactly half of my life as an "adult".)
1) If you want comments e-mailed to you, we can now enter up to 10 addresses to receive them (and I don't need to be one of them as I check the blog much more often than I check that e-mail account).
2) I just enacted word verification for comments (three spam comments in a week is just too many). Allegedly it won't change commenting for authors, but let me know (or change it back) if it becomes too cumbersome.
3) I'm assuming that blog members not writing recently haven't done so because they are busy with other pursuits (jobs, giant papers and lives all being fairly important), but please let us know if you haven't written because of something else, so we can at least send virtual hugs.
Our little blog is 2 months old, and I believe it is serving a useful purpose so far. In two months we have had 1 pregnancy, 1 marriage proposal, several jobs offers and interviews, several hair cuts and lots of fubulous spring flowers. A busy two months.
I want to encourage all of the Gorgeous Biologist Knitters not to wait until you have big news to post. Obviously we are thrilled to find out when friends have great life changing events (LCE?). But, by their nature, life changing events don't happen all that often. Interesting knitting conversations are often based around the random (most marmosets are chimeras) and the practical (my hard drive just crashed, remember to save your data) and style questions (what to knit for beachware?) as well as the important. Echinoderms are cool is probably my favorite post so far (and the post where GBKs identified a blurry bee from a plant photo-- I was way impressed). Keep us updated with the little things as well as the big.
So there are no status codes or menu selection options, but it turns out that if I click on the "guest" next to your names you become administrators-- not an intuitive step to me. You should be able to sign up for e-mail alerts under settings. I would still like to have the comments in a seperate column as norlos does, but I can't figure out how to do that on blogger. (It actually makes for particularly interesting reading as comments on any post are posted their reverse chronologically).
If someone wants to change the layout for the month of April, go for it, I only request that we keep the title and I'm becomming fond of the labels now.
