Beth will celebrate a double digit birthday on Sunday and Irene and her Mister celebrate six years of married life (Saturday, I believe). Meanwhile, Max will be turning 13 months soon, Cheryl and her Mister have been married 5 years and Annika turned 3. 3! That's crazy big-girlness.

Later this week, Max turns 1 months, Beth turns a year older (in a new house) and Irene will celebrate her 5th anniversary.
Earlier this month, Annika turned two! Two! Wowee. Zoe and Zacha turned half.
Sometime this month, Cheryl celebrated(s) her anniversary (in the same state as her husband??)

Maybe because I'm not on Facebook (sorry, I still might someday, but another student just tried to convince me to join which reminds me of how little I want to think about students and co-workers as "friends". Somehow I'm much better about publicly anonymously posting about my life for readers who have to seek it out rather than worrying about friends and privacy settings), or maybe because somehow I'm a social-networking "node" (this idea makes me giggle), or maybe 'cause I don't pay enough attention: I've noticed that a lot of momentous things are happening that haven't been fully noted. So, here's a partial list of things that I understand have, will or were going to happen this year and that I desire more information about.
Babies: 4 new ones-- one of undetermined sex to be induced on Wednesday, a girl to Heather due in Sept. and a girl due in October and a boy due in December; plus one one year old.
Moves: Jenny to St. Louis, Cathy to St. Louis, Jennifer to Liberty (from Independence), Molly to Utah (and a marriage), Juls to Lawrence (all completed), TT to California (in progress?), and Beth to a different place (hoped for?).
Travels: Jenny to New Zealand, Erin to Palau, Cathy to Australia, SpSq to Italy, Abby to Britain (?), Jennifer to Puerto Rico (?), Sal Sis to the Grand Canyon and Haiti (?) and many others I don't know about.
Research and Jobs: Cathy fantastic finish, Cheryl almost done, Beth closer to tenure, Juls back in grad school and with a possible new project, Abby taking great pictures and making crazy dives, Jennifer fumigating a greenhouse, TT and Irene involved with all kinds of projects, Sal Sis becomming a stricter boss . . .
On-going Stuff: beekeeping, reading, knitting, commuting, house repairs, house painting, cool crafty mobiles, pets, hiking, canoeing, gardening, fascination with mosses, summer science camps . . .
Anyway, I don't think I'm the only reader who wants more details!
Assuming all went well, Brian just became lucky on the beach in Southern California and married to GBK Molly (who is getting quite a catch out of the deal herself).

Mardi Gras is Tuesday, so I thought that the theme for this week might be one extravagent/excessive thing you'd like to do and one thing you'd like to give up in your life.
Upcoming early in March will be Molly's birthday, followed by Cathy's defense and then Debbie's birthday on the Ides. Wishing you metaphorically broken legs and great days!
Within the next week, Erin and T.T. will each celebrate an annual milestone. Happy Birthday to you both! May you take the time to enjoy the moment and start another year in joyous style.
Those of us not in warm locations (Sal Sis is in Haiti and Jenny soon to be in New Zealand, but as far as I know, the rest of us in places where icy winds still blast through in February) are anxious to learn of your "subtropical" adventures.
Upcoming in the next two weeks: the birthdays of Jennifer, Irene and Jenny. I hate lumping their birthdays together, because three such dear friends deserve their own posts, their own good wishes and not to be lumped in with the birthdays of their mothers, sisters, friends or Thanksgiving. But if I don't lump, I will forget, and that would be far worse. So. . .

One of my seniors brought us cupcakes for Mole Day. Apparently chemists always celebrate it on 10/23 (at 6:02, officially). It makes me happy that there are at least a few real geeks around, although she hadn't heard of pi day (March 14), so I volunteered that she should come back with some pie in a few months.
Happy Birthday to Jennifer's Mister (Tuesday?), Jenny's Mister (late in July) and 3 month to Annika (today).
We just passed Beth's Anniversary, mine is this week, and Tucson's is next week.
But no birthdays among GBKs.
So, I was washing dishes and thinking that between Bridgett and Cathy (late May) and Cheryl and Abby (October), we have no birthdays*. On the other hand, all of the Misters' birthdays I know fall in that gap. Nate is late May, Mario June, Stephen and Tim July and Jeff September. What's up with summer men and late autumn-winter-spring women?
And, while I am washing dishes, I was thinking about whether or not this is statistically significant. And, more to the point, would it be an interesting enough problem for my techniques of science classes to do. I think the answer is no to both (although I haven't worked it out yet) but I am intrigued by the different tests one could do depending on what the null hypothesis is.

This is the week of Abby's candidacy exam, my seniors' orals, Cheryl's anniversary (I think), Jennifer's end of her first year teaching (all the way through finals), my end of classes for the second year, nearly the end of Beth's third year and Annika's fourth week of life.
It's also the week of my annual appreciation of azaleas and the mysterious wondrous fragrance I can't identify (similar to Korean Spice Viburnumsm, but not).

Just got a job offer from WJ College in Liberty MO! I interviewed with them last Friday. This was my first choice of the positions I had interveiwed for. I am so excited.
