New Year's Eve party?

Sparkling Squirrel will be in Lawrence New Year's Eve. I'm not sure what our plans will be, but I could have a party at my house that night. Will anyone else happen to be in Lawrence? Or want to drive to Lawrence for it and you can sleep over?

SHOWERS!

Finally here are photos! I learned not to make shower games complicated at all even if the group consists of very educated women. And that I prefer a whacky mom over a picky mom.

You are invited to Anna's baby shower

Hi Knitters - Anna wanted me to invite all of you to her shower! Sunday Aug. 9 at 10:30am. It's at her mom-in-law's house in Lawrence. Please email me at my ku address if you are able to be there and I'll send you directions & other details that I don't want to post to the world. I don't have everyone's emails so am mass inviting you.

Please join Pat (Anna's mom), Juanita (Anna's mom-in-law) and me in celebrating Anna's baby boy! We will have a brunch with Anna while she is in Lawrence.

Since Anna is in the process of moving to California, rather than overwhelming her with more items to pack and move, if you would like to give a gift, please arrange for your present to be shipped to Anna & Nate's new address: (I'll send you this)

Anna is registered at
(click on the links, she's registered under Anna + her new last name):

We will shower her with pictures of her gifts, so bring a picture of the gift to share at the shower!

November! Ack!

How is already November?!? I'm currently posting as a procrastination technique (my annual report is due tomorrow), but I've found that this semester is flying by at a high rate of speed. On my end, life is good but way too busy.

We had our annual Joshoween this weekend and it was lots of fun. We transform our house into a haunted house (on the first floor and the basement). It's lots of fun but it has killed my weekend with clean-up all day yesterday. And now today I don't want to grade or work on this report. sigh.

My class on Tuesday got canceled because of the rally. There are supposed to be lots of people downtown so all classes starting after 3 pm are canceled. I have to say that I'm not all that unhappy but it really isn't the best time in the semester to miss a week.

Anyway, I'm going to get back to work but I was thinking of everyone and wanted to say hi. How's everyone else doing?

The Flood

In Lawrence, I have not heard of any wide-spread flooding like there has been in Topeka and Parksville, Mo. Over the weekend, it was estimated that Topeka got 8 - 10 inches of rain. 8-10!!!! In Lawrence we received a more modest 3.75 inches in 24 hours. No massive floods but the river is sure was full.

It was a party down at the levee. Steve was amazed at how many people were there to gawk at the river (including me!).

Evidence that I am a nerd. As I was pulling weeds last night I was excited to see this plant.

Carex blanda, a species I did some work on with Helen last year. No smut on it, but I am going to keep my eye out.

Last weekend's party

Hi,
Last weekend I attended a big birthday bash for my nephew. Here is a link to my personal blog with a recap of the weekend (if you are interested).

This weekend will be an at home weekend. I will be meeting with Helen about a manuscript, cleaning out my flower beds, and probably watching basketball.
What are your plans for the coming up weekend?
