st lucia?

Has anyone been to St. Lucia? Josh and I are thinking of going there for the honeymoon and staying at a Sandals resort there for a few days of lying in the sun and relaxing. Just wondering if anyone had been there and knew if it was nice - the pictures look pretty.

Hi Beth-- how exciting to be planning your honeymoon! I started this comment recommending that if you do go to St. Lucia, you might enjoy reading Omeros by Derek Walcott... but actually it isn't exactly relaxing reading. I'm not sure I would have made it through had it not been assigned reading, but after struggling through it remains one of the books that I find myself thinking about the most. Well, not exactly what you were asking, but it's my one connection to the island...

I was going to advise against Sandals because of their ban on gay couples, but I checked and it seems they changed their mind on that issue a few years ago.

We definitely considered St. Lucia, and in fact I'd still really like to go there someday. But since we ended up picking St. John, that's all I can really say about it.

While I relate to the temptation of not planning anything, my philosophy is that generally one has too few vacations in life to waste one (that might even have a bigger budget) on an all-inclusive resort doing nothing (even if you have a cute knitted bikini). But that's just how the mister and I travel. I don't know anything about St. Lucia.

I guess I should mention that snorkeling and scuba are included in the all-inclusive along with sailboats, etc.

Hey Beth - Look up St. Lucia in this forum from the lonely tree guides to see what people say. You might find a recommendation for places to explore.

I'm like Lisa and want to explore some and not just spend time in a resort, but wish I had more resorty time in Jamaica! But it was so much NOT a relax and do nothing vacation, except at the beaches, that I'd like to go just veg at the beach places. But now I know how life is complicated for an intelligent working woman in Jamaica.
