Ah the mild breezes of spring

Well, it's 85 degrees here in Tucson, headed for 88 as today's high and 90 tomorrow. I'm a COOL weather gal. What I wouldn't give for the 60 degrees I see in Lawrence! I'm going to melt and April's hardly begun! Will I survive June and July?!?

Well, it is supposed to get below freezing here for the next 5 days. Poor flowers.

What do you have blooming now?

And below freezing here for the four days after that (although 80 today). Poor magnolias not going to be happy.

Well,
the tulips are on there way out. Right now the red-buds are in full bloom. The pear trees and magnolias are done. The lilacs are just starting. I also have lots of perennial flowers coming up in my yard (daisies, coneflower, larkspur, and unknowns) that I am worried about. I imagine that after the next couple of days, it won't be a good year for lilacs. Hmmm, maybe I should go pick some.

Last night it did not freeze, but I think on Saturday the low is supposed to be 15 degrees.

It snowed a bit here this morning, though it wouldn't qualify according to Lisa's last-day-of-snow rules (for predications made at the groundhog parties). But Iowa doesn't have too much blooming yet, aside from some Forsithia (sp?) so I'm hoping the plants won't suffer too much.

LILACS! Oh I LOVE lilacs! They don't grow here and Trader Joe's was selling little tiny bouquets of them for $8.99 each (didn't buy one but was tempted). Guess I'll have to wait until I live in a cooler climate (each climate has its own joys, right?). 15 degrees in early April IS a drag! Isn't that unusual in Lawrence? I sure hope the lilacs survive! Funny that you're having a cold snap while we're having record warm temperatures (the ugly specter of climate change?). Here's wishing you warmth and myself coolness!
