Kingdom Animalia is 97% animals

I learned this from a quiz on which a student was asked to list a similarity and a difference between members of Kingdom Animalia and other groups. Difference for Kingdom Fungi "Kingdom Fungi includes mold. Kingdom Animalia is 97% animals." It happened on Monday and it is still making my week.

Making my day is that I am wearing new skinny pants. They are not, in fact, the skinny jeans that were in last year which would look horrible on my curvy body, but rather a pair of nice deep brown brushed cotton bootcut pants that are long enough and look good on me. I consider them skinny pants because I purchased them on sale last year when I was at my fattest for a future skinny me. I forgot about them for 11 months and put them on this morning and they fit well. Hooray!

What's giving you joy today?

That we have our fitness thing going because I could report to my weight watchers person that I walked 7 miles this past week, which I would not have done otherwise. I'm going to add an extra mile on Saturdays & Sundays.

Oh cool - I just saw the email follow up comments to box. I'll try it.

I am so happy for Sparkling Squirrel and her skinny pants. That's like finding 20 bucks in your jacket from last year (but even better because it makes you feel good). In other clothing-related news, my dissertation has finally taken its toll on almost all of my jeans. I keep wearing through the butts on them! Another pair bit the dust today as I got up from my computer and felt a cool breeze down there. Good thing I didn't teach today...

I am grateful for my new office chair that came today. It is so much better than the old one that toppled over if I sat on it wrong. Maybe it will also be easier on my pants.

The untold danger of dissertating - blowing out your jeans. Hope the new chair helps.

Ok, missed posting yesterday but I'll do one today instead - sticking with the clothing theme, I'm delighted that I recently found a shop in Ambler called Trimesters, that is a maternity clothing boutique with a consignment section. I finally got a few pairs of real maternity pants, and although they don't make me look skinny (nor would I want them to, I'm going for the Buddha look here in a few months!) they do look nice and they give me room to breathe.

Erin-- Congratulations on being so focused with your butt in the chair that you are wearing out your jeans.

My news of the day is that I was just asked to be a speaker at the seminar series at WVU for the whole bio department in the spring. Tangentially Helen's doing, I believe.

Bringing me great joy is the new wifi access at my house!!! Also, I am very, very glad that my sister talked me into "working" from home with her and the dogs in order to be here for the verizon folks. Of course, I spent the entire morning playing with my newly purchased sewing machine instead of thinking about bees. Why does being bad feel so good? :)

I read your post out-loud to Joli just now, sp sq. We both were laughing so hard... thank you!

I did use 97% and Kingdom Animalia in the same sentence in class (why we cover inverts is becase 97% of Kingdom Animalia is made of invertebrates). Then I did also earlier state that "plants have the amazing ability to make wood from air and water" which apparently leads to ferns being adapted to life away from water because "they can make water from wood"

My happiness for the day is that my part of the tenure progress s done for another year. My corrections are made and now I just wait to see the reports and follow ups. My computer at work has also been fixed and works again. Now if only those midterms would grade themselves....
