Bon Voyage

The GBK has just expanded our range westward*. Abby is off for Japan for the summer today and Erin is, I believe, already in Hawai'i, with Mario to follow soon.
*Technically, I suppose, Abby is now the furthest east of us. Japan, BlueBell, D.C., Glenville, Chatanooga, Chicago, Ames**, Liberty, Lawrence, Lincoln, Tucson***, Hilo.
**Speaking of Iowa, Jenny, are you underwater?
***Spearking of Arizona, TT are you there or off on another adventure?

Thanks Lisa! I have safely arrived in Tokyo and am now about to pass out on the bed (13 hours is a really long time to be on a plane!).

Sorry Jennifer, I didn't leave you out, I just forgot your house was in Independence, not Liberty (and Liberty alliterated).

Abby, glad you're safely there!

Glad you made it there safely, Abby!!
Thanks for thinking of me, SpSq. We personally are only damp, not underwater. Ames had some damage but it really seems insignificant compared to the flooding in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. But after two weeks of standing water, the mosquito population has exploded--it feels like a buzzing cloud is constantly hovering around.

Hector, Frances, and I made it to Hawaii last Thursday. We have been busy settling in, finding our permanent home, and getting used to the coqui frogs. Work has been very exciting and equally exhausting. I also had my first lava fall, which was due to happen sooner or later. We miss Mario (and all of you!), but he will be here on the 30th. I'm looking forward to more fieldwork and afterwork boogie boarding tomorrow.

Hi folks,

Sorry I've been so low profile -- well simply ABSENT. I don't know how you teachers DO it. I was playing frantic catch up all during the 5 week course that I just finished teaching yesterday. I'm still in Tucson -- no adventures lately except driving a van with 9 high school students in it. Wow, Abby, that's so cool that you're in Japan! Wow, Erin, I hope you love Hawaii! I'm off to Amsterdam in a couple weeks to accompany Nate while he's there working with a colleague. I'll be there 2 weeks and he'll be there a month.

Amsterdam - how cool is that. I hope you have a great time while you are there.
