J. K. Rowling at Harvard: The Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination

I found this commencement speech interesting, funny, and inspiring, and I know several of you are JK Rowling fans so I thought I'd share.

I read it earlier this week. I thought it was a great talk. And unlike the talk at my graduation (which was about the priest abuse scandal) it was really appropriate to the situation. But I did read about how some Harvard students felt that they were "entitled" to better. And then they wonder why people think they are snotty!

Last year my college (the one I teach at) had the state director of homeland security. It was quite amusing as the guy tried to give a standard graduation speech but also fill us with fear about what happens to WV when terrorsts strike DC, 'cause that's what you do when you're the homeland security guy for WV (nobody worries that WV is going to be directly attacked).
