Overdue
I thought twice about posting this picture. The koala is so over-the-top adorable it seems like showing off to share the photo. But it illustrates some important changes in my life that I want you all to know about. Notice the double chin, pornstar boobs, bulging tummy, and greasy complexion? This picture sums up perfectly what my first trimester of pregnancy was like. It was exciting, emotional, puffy, full of travel, and pretty uncomfortable. For a month I actually felt green (think bugs bunny feeling queasy). But that has passed, and I’m getting to the part where it starts to feel real. We’re getting really excited now and happy to start sharing the news. I just wish I could tell you all in person!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Porn star boob - lol
Congatulations Erin! What an absolutely fabulous photo! Someday you can tell your child that a kaola once sat on him/her :)
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that photo!
Congratulations Erin! I'm thrilled for you and Mario - and your kid who will have such cool parents. And that's an adorable photo!
Congrats! I wondered why you didn't imbibe the beer at ESA. :)
Thanks everyone! C- My sister wondered the same thing the weekend after ESA, but being pregnant never crossed her mind. She thought I was messed up in the head or something. She was so surprised when I finally told her (and relieved that I wasn't becoming a Mormon).
Thanks for sharing your cool news, it is really wonderful! Also, that koala is exceptionally adorable, and I'm glad you aren't green anymore!
Yay Erin! You verify that pregnancy must virulently be spreading across the world, even my Mongolian friend is pregnant.
WOW!!! It's going to be even cuter than the koala, of course!!
Congrats, but I'm going to be the one who asks... why is the Koala in Hawaii?
Steve says congrats, and he is jealous that you got to hold a Koala. So why are you holding a koala or how were you able to do so?
I held the koala in Australia, when I was there for a conference. I think koalas could do well in Hawaii due to the Eucalyptus plantations and would be much cuter than any of our current introduced mammals (mongoose are not very cuddly).
I had mixed feelings about handling a koala, but the preserve seems to take good care of the animals and limits their contact with humans to 30 minutes a month. I probably wouldn't have done it if I didn't know that I was pregnant. One of the women I was with was also pregnant, and we have a picture of both of us with the koala...super cheesy!
They even take a glossy studio portrait of you with the animal, which I managed to forget somewhere in a haze of hunger and hormones. One thing I didn't know about koalas...the males have scent glands on their chests! This guy was pretty stinky, even to the non-pregnant people there.
I'm super late on this but congrats Erin! That is really exciting. And count me as another who feels that everyone I know is pregnant or just had a baby.
