Gift ideas for a new mom

I'm going to a baby shower this weekend for someone I don't know that well. Since it is her second baby, most people are getting gifts for her since she has most of the baby things covered. Anyone have suggestions for gifts that would be good? I thought about a gift certificate for pedicure...but will she have time to actually use it? Thanks for any ideas!

While perhaps less fun, you can be assured that food will be used-- gift certificate for someplace that does take out, a homemade meal frozen, an agreement to deliver something over.
I was given a gift certificate to a florist, which was a bit odd coming from an older math prof. I don't know well, but I really enjoyed the flowers.
I'd love a pedicure, but I'm not sure when I would have taken the time for one before now.
If you wanted something for baby, books are always good (and the cardboard books for toddlers were probably destroyed by first kid) or you could do an upgrade on the greenness of baby things-- some g diapers, or chlorine free wipes or BPA free glass bottles or something that likely wasn't available as of first kid. Good luck.

I agree with SpSq's practical suggestions. If something fun and luxurious for mama is what you're after, I personally would have been more likely to use a certificate for massage than pedicure.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to go with a gift certificate to our new natural foods store that has a great takeout bar. They also have g diapers and all of the other green stuff, so she can pick what she wants. By the way, are these g diapers really the revolution they claim to be?

I haven't tried g diapers yet (well, so far they're too small for us and too big for the cat -- need that right sized butt to come along). Anyway, we are stocked up with some and planning to give them a whirl. The comments I found suggest that some people think they work great and some people hate them. I like the idea of something biodegradable and in my (somewhat limited) research didn't find anything else.

I'll be posting on g-diapers, cloth diapers, pampers and cheap disposables over on Spark Squirrel sometime this week. The gs are pretty cool, but do have down sides.
