Lesotho and Swaziland are close, and either would be interesting to see what a small Southern African and terribly poor country (with a monarchy as the government) looks like. You are also not all that far from Kruger National Park, which is an experience. Beg, borrow, or steal your way to there. Hook up with a guide somehow and go through the park - it's unlike anything you can get in the states. Two days in the park are better than 1, if you can manage it.

I'm vaguely hopeful we can get tickets to the 2010 world cup in South Africa and see the Kalahari (and Botswana). Kruger is a great place to start.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4233715669196324514.post-88032668387793208572008-05-20T13:59:00.000-05:002008-05-20T13:59:00.000-05:00Happy birthday Sparkling Squirrel!Happy birthday Sparkling Squirrel!Irenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10763085299053200761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4233715669196324514.post-26353433649364610722008-05-19T16:57:00.000-05:002008-05-19T16:57:00.000-05:00Thanks all! My parents are in town and we have spent the day planning house repair projects (but not actually doing them, although we did buy lots of parts), planning meals and hikes (but not doing them) and baking a cake.

SalSis- looking forward to truly catching up and learning more about your trip.

Molly- my Mister has been to S. I'm going to be there for a conference and am trying to plan something extra so I can actually see something of the country...Mollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18117106761528614800noreply@blogger.com
